WHAT IS WARHAMMER? title image.
Picture of a battle between Empire and Chaos armies of miniatures.
Warhammer is a miniatures wargame, where players command vast armies of model soldiers in the struggle to outmaneuver and outfight one another on a tabletop battlefield. This gaming action is set amid a fantasy world like no other, where sorcery and monsters are common on the field of battle.

A GAME OF FANTASY BATTLES

The Warhammer world is a land engulfed by war. The Empire, greatest nation of Men, defends its borders against hordes of beasts and Northmen who worship the Dark Gods of Chaos. Below the peaks of the Words Edge Mountains, the stalwart Dwarfs defend their rocky homes from marauding bands of Orcs and Goblins, and the insidious undermining of the Skaven. Far away, on the fair island of Ulthuan, the High Elves dwell in near isolation, fighting a bitter war against their twisted kin, the Dark Elves. To the south lie the sandy realms of the undying Tomb Kings, who guard the riches of their tombs from plundering raiders.

This rich and brutal fantasy world serves as the backdrop for your games of Warhammer. With beautifully sculpted Citadel miniatures in your armies, you and your opponent will match wits and luck as you fight across the tabletop. Dice are used to work out the results of each skirmish between your units of infantry, cavalry, monsters, and war machines as they move, shoot, cast magic, or charge gloriously into hand-to-hand combat.
